I love this, I have been trying to slow down in between the busyness and this is something I want to embrace more. Also trusting that there will be space to bring in the nourishment - a cuppa with friends, a country walk this is where I would love to focus - putting these things first instead of last x

I think for me slowing down in between the busyness can be so hard because the busy pace feels weirdly safe because it’s so habitual. and something about our human brain feels like if we slow down or stop we’ll never get back up again! so we have to keep practicing and then it gets easier to trust that there’s ebb and flow rather than all GO.

and for the good thing yes absolutely, putting them first. i think we have to be so boundaried about this. next week I have loads to do in the one spare window I have at the beginning of the week, but I’m determined to spend those few hours doing something restful instead (probably swim and sauna in the local leisure centre

Yep so true! Being continuously busy feels safer/more comfortable! Swim and sauna sounds lush ☺️

Loved this. I think I'm also slowly but surely breaking the cycle of pushing myself continuously to the point of burnout - even with work I enjoy - but I also worry that I could slip back into this old habit, so your tips are very welcome and I'll try to remember them the next time I sense myself rushing to keep up with life.

thank you so much ❤️ and that’s an excellent point, I have definitely changed my ways and then found myself back in the habit again. All we can do is spot it right, and make a change again. hurrah for learning and self-awareness!

Yessss, so with you on all of this (including tree wisdom!). Busy has very much become a badge of honour and actually an acceptable reply when someone asks how you are, which seems crazy! I certainly reached burn out in my early 30s from the culture of busy, tired and wired. Learning to come back to myself has been a long process and one where I have found taking cues from the living world very helpful. Thank you for your pointers, all great and timely reminders and I love the ideas of relaxing and softening into the moment xx

This is a sermon. I’m so grateful for your voice and being part of this slow culture of unlearning with you. The Samhain circle was a pocket of a nourishment during a really busy time and my nervous system took away so much from it in slowing down between takes actually expands my capacity for day to day pleasure and rest amidst doing something I love, even the admin bits I can get overwhelmed with. Your work and voice are so valuable to me and your writing helps me sit in myself more xx
