Looking towards the light
Midway between solstice and Imbolc, being ready for change, choosing love
I’m running two yoga retreats this year, one 4-night retreat in June to Northern Portugal and one weekend retreat in Norfolk in October | Join me for some glorious slow days of movement, rest and beautiful food in two beautiful natural settings |
Hello friends,
This post is for members of the Wheel, my paid membership (just £5 a month or less if you buy annual) of kind and wise humans who come together every six weeks for a seasonal circle. Our circles are moments of pause to connect to natural cycles and seasonal wisdom through learning about the Celtic wheel of the year, somatic practices (like gentle movement and breath work), journalling and sharing our thoughts and experiences with each other in a safely held circle. Our next circle (Imbolc - first wave of spring) - is on Tuesday 4 February at 8pm.
Paid members also receive seasonal posts like this one, to keep you connected to where we are in the year and remind you of any intentions you set in the last circle.
“I find these circles nourishing and grounding. I appreciate hearing what’s going on for the other women present, it locates my own experience in another kind of cycle. I love the gentle and contemplative space Chloe creates. It opens up a compassionate pause in the month.”

Firstly: if you haven’t caught up with the recording and journalling prompts from our last circle and you’d like to, all the info is in this post. I aim to send this info out as a Substack email the day after the circle, but I also always edit the seasonal info post from just prior to the session with that info. So you should always be able to find it on here too.
The journalling prompts were about our relationship to the dark and about what you might be putting into a cauldron to alchemise into something else. You also wrote one word on a post-it for this cycle as usual. I’d love to hear how you are, where you’re at with it all? Could be in a few words or longer, please tell me in the comments!
So, onto my post, also behind the paywall as it’s a little more personal this time. I hope you enjoy it!
I’m calling it: the light has changed. On Saturday morning I was sitting at my desk and it looked … different. That’s all I can say, very unscientific I know. It just felt more like spring morning light than winter light. I haven’t yet noticed the afternoons getting any longer but in a few short weeks, I expect to notice it, the glimmer of light lasting a little longer into the afternoon.
In the next month I expect to finally experience the ongoing neglect of my garden as intolerable and be motivated to get out there and tidy up. The daffodils are back in the supermarket and the new buds on the bare branches have been waiting to open for months now. Often we feel nothing is changing but actually, we’re just not looking closely enough.
